PORTING AND GAS FLOWING ENGINE HEADS
The engine is the most important part of the vehicle which includes the cylinders and the piston which help the car to run. Engines are categorized by the volume of cylinders they have. Each cylinder features a piston within it and valves that are operated to make it possible for the intake of fuel and launch of exhaust gases.
Even the tiniest unnecessary material in the cylinders will cause the engine to work double time in creating energy. So it’s requiring proper care and porting is one of them. Porting is a process that involves grinding away excess protruding parts in the cylinder heads. In effect, greater amounts of air will easily flow in the intake and exhaust ports of the engine. There are many porting tools are there. The required porting tools are easily available in most hardware stores or Internet. First one is the air compressor and air powered dies grinder next is the 60 to 80 grit sanding rolls & lastly, carbide cutters and shop vacuum. During porting one should take the proper care and safety tips with any automotive work. When dealing with a grinder, one should always wear safely glasses and mask to avoid particles from irritation.
In the past, optimization of engine components such as cylinder heads was based on building a series of physical prototypes, and performing a series of different experiments and tests. Unfortunately, the traditional process for designing and developing was time-consuming and difficult to build physical prototypes during the early stages of the design. The construction and testing of many prototypes is often required to meet a stringent design requirement. This can turn into an expensive process and delay the entire design and development cycle. Therefore, (FEA) or finite element analysis methodology is being used and becoming a systematic methodology in the early stages of engine design to save the cost and time of the manufacturing process. Therefore, finite element analysis (FEA) is considered as one of the most powerful computer-aided design tools for the engineers. The cylinder head is one of the most complicated and challenging parts of engine, where FEA plays an important role in its optimization.
